I’m crazy for pizza these days. I told y’all in a previous post that I have made so many pizzas lately due to my love for my new Baking Steel, but also because it’s a fast and easy “go-to” lunch or dinner item and I always have something in my refrigerator or pantry that turns out yummy on pizza.
I was only cooking for two of us when I made this pizza and I wasn’t extremely hungry, so pizza was a no-brainer for me. Other than preheating my Baking Steel for 45 minutes prior to baking the pizza, it was fast and simple to through together. Clean up was even faster! Love dinners like that.

Spicy Onion & Pepper Pizza with Beef
An easy and flavorful pizza that's sure to please.
Ingredients
- 1 pizza dough rolled out thinly
- 1/4 cup marinara sauce
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella divided
- 1/2 lb seasoned ground beef cooked
- 1 tsp red pepper flakes
- 1/4 red onion sliced thinly
- 1/4 green bell pepper sliced thinly
- 1/4 cup fresh mozzarella pulled apart
Instructions
Preheat baking steel in a 500 degree oven for 45 minutes to an hour.
For the meat:
-
In a pan, brown the hamburger meat along with the red pepper flakes, salt, pepper and garlic powder until browned.
-
Set aside to cool.
For the pizza dough:
-
Roll out the dough in a thin layer and place on a pizza peel that is lined with parchment paper.
-
Spoon the marinara sauce thinly and evenly all over the dough.
-
Sprinkle half of the shredded mozzarella cheese all over the sauce.
-
Layer the cooled ground beef, peppers and onions all over the pizza and top with the fresh mozzarella and shredded mozzarella.
To bake:
-
Place the pizza on the baking steel and bake for 6 to 7 minutes or until golden and bubbly.
Tip: I recently read that after you preheat your Baking Steel for 45 minutes to an hour, turn your broiler on prior to placing the pizza in the oven and leave it on for 2 minutes then back to 500 degrees for the remainder of the cooking. This method helps to conduct the heat on top of the pizza as well as the crust. I’ve tried it and it really works.
